Anna Maria Abbona Dolcetto Dogliani DOCG "Sori Dij But" 2022
Possibly a candidate for Italy’s least understood grape variety, Dolcetto hails from Italy’s greatest wine region – Piemonte. Of the seven Dolcetto-producing sub-zones, Dogliani is generally considered the best of the 7 Dolcetto districts and one of the 3 to have achieved D.O.C.G. status. It’s also where the best hilltop sites are planted in Dolcetto (elsewhere King Nebbiolo reigns).
Annamaria Abbona, her husband Franco and her sons Lorenzo & Federico are true ambassadors of their zone and region. A visit to their land followed by a tasting in the winery (which Franco, a veteran stonemason, built brick by brick) is an unforgettable experience. Of their large selection of wines, this is one of our favourites. Dark purple and with abundant fruit, particularly blueberry, but also no shortage of acidity and tannin, this is a superbly balanced drop.
