Antonelli Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG 2016
Unique to Umbria, the name Sagrantino is said to derive from its use in the holy sacrament. Religious history and folklore aside, Sagrantino is renowned for its big but supple tannins while Antonelli is one of Umbria’s greatest estates, with origins going back to the Middle Ages.
Made of selected fruit from the oldest vines grown at 300-400 M a.s.l and aged for at least 18 months, with 6 in tonneau (15% new) and 12 in large format neutral oak. A rich and powerful nose of cherry, wild strawberry, mint and oregano. Rich fruit swathed in minerality and those unique Sagrantino tannins which are at the same time powerful yet silky. Absolutely a wine to be enjoyed at table with grilled, roast or braised meats as well as with hard cheeses such as pecorino.
