Antonelli Trebbiano Spoletino "Trebium" 2022

$39.90

The Trebbiano family comprises many grape varieties, most of which are unrelated and many of which are responsible for rather non-descript white wines. Not so Trebbiano Spoletino; this variety from Umbria is renowned for producing interesting wines of quality, structure and age-worthiness. Historically, Trebbiano Spoletino vines were trained up trees rather than trellises. This was done to free up land for planting grain and produce in the fields between the rows of trees, which also acted as a windbreak.

Antonelli San Marco is the foremost producer of Trebbiano Spoletino and one of Umbria’s principal wineries. All of their Trebbiano vines are propagated utilizing massal selection from original tree vine stock. The wine sees a short maceration on the skins before fermentation in large oak barrels. It displays an intense straw gold colour and a persistent nose of white flowers, citrus and tropical fruit, with a characteristic acidity and spiciness. A well-structured white wine that can stand up to rich fish stews or even rare roast beef.
