Castello di Verduno Barbaresco DOCG 2021
Steeped in history, the 16th-century castle of Verduno – once the hunting lodge of King Carlo Alberto of Savoy – sits in the northernmost production zone of Barolo. In 1909 the property was purchased by the Burlotto family. Fast forward to the 2000s and a wine-dynasty marriage, it became one of the few wineries producing both Barolo and Barbaresco.
This splendid “old-school” example comes from grapes grown in several estate vineyards (Rabajà, Rabajà-bas and Faset). Aged for 18 months in large Slavonian oak casks, the wine is unfiltered and unfined. The nose is classic red fruit and spice; the fruit is forward and succulent. Long and flavoursome, it has wonderful balance and drinkability now and a cellaring potential of several decades at least.
