Castello Torre in Pietra Vermentino 2022
Originally a mediaeval fortress with lookout towers, the 17th-century castle was once owned by the Vatican, followed by Roman nobility. Purchased by the Antonelli family in the 1930s, the farm was famed for its milk production but converted to viticulture in the 1960s.
The Tyrrhenian Sea is visible from the vineyards on the coast north of Rome. The maritime influence is also notable in this slightly saline, crisp white which benefits from the iodine-laden sea breeze and sandy soil. Characterised by its floral notes, minerality, juicy acidity and lovely scents of Mediterranean herbs, Vermentino is the quintessential aperitif and seafood wine.
