La Tosa Colli Piacentini "Riodeltordo" 2021
La Tosa is a wonderful winegrowing family from the Apenine hills between Parma and Piacenza. Brothers Stefano and Ferruccio Pizzamiglio farm their hilly land (100-350M a.s.l.) with its characteristic sandy red soil. Their farm is also home to an agriturismo (restaurant), a wine museum and a library of some 6,000 volumes, featuring an array of wine books and maps, including an original copy of Louis Pasteur’s 1873 edition of “Etude sur le Vin”.
Working with minimal intervention and low sulphur dioxide, their wines show extreme purity and cleanliness. Named after the small river Tordo that crosses their district of Valnure, this white blend integrates the aromatics of Malvasia, the smoothness and minerality of Ortugo (both local grapes), the fruitiness of Trebbiano and the unmistakable scent and flavour of Sauvignon Blanc (grown in this valley since the 1800s). A delightful and versatile white to enjoy as an aperitivo and with all vegetable and seafood dishes.
